TV Newsy Bits - Sunday, October 7, 2007

Jackie's TV Newsy BitsI want autumn. I want crisp cool nights, low humidity, and warm (not hot) days.

Make it happen before the snow is upon us, please. I've been resisting the urge to turn on the air conditioner here because it just seems so incongruous to even think of using it during what I consider the best weather times of the year. But I'll admit to running my fan.

In TV Newsy Bits:

TV Land is celebrating the 50th anniversary of Leave it to Beaver with a huge marathon all weekend. Now, of course I don't remember the show from when I was a toddler, but it was one of the earliest shows I can remember watching by the time I was five or so. Beaver, The Mickey Mouse Club (I had a child crush on Cubby and loved Spin and Marty), The Twilight Zone, Ed Sullivan, and the Lone Ranger were the TV mainstays of my really early childhood days. Alas, my mother never wore pearls around the house and my father, though he always sported a Ward Cleaver haircut, only wore a tie for social occasions. The Cleavers we were not.

Although I don't watch The Bachelor, a local contestant was ousted by the show this past week. So, of course, the local news is full of her. This Reality TV World interview shows she really wanted to win. I just don't get it. Perhaps because I'm an avowed spoiled single person, I just can't think people actually go on a show like The Bachelor for love. For money, for fame, but love?

I was looking over Evel Dick's (BB8) MySpace page. I'm not on the list of people he wants to meet. I'm so crushed.

Not.

Gee, here I was in texas, a place I MOVED TO for love, wishing for the same chrisp weather. I have taken to eating honey Chrisp apples to make it feel like it is. It's a fairly new apple grown in washington. They are only out there for abotu 6 weeks, so if you haven't treid it, I beg you to run not walk to your local Whole foods or somewhere to ask if they have them. Easy to find in NY at the green markets. Makes Fuji's pale, and that is hard to do.

I always used to eat apples in the fall when I read, from the days of Nancy Drew right on up to studying Shakespeare and Socrates... Now I just watch reality TV and read Us magazine. Sigh. wahappun?

I think someone needs to send ED your link, or to Vincent or Nick or someone!

Upstate NY is about the same weather-wise, cool nights (great sleeping weather with the open windows) and warm days (using the fan, too). This is some fall so far.

Boy, does your post bring on the nostalgia! I loved those shows you mentioned, and also, Father Knows Best, The Donna Reed Show, Roy Rogers, Hopalong Cassidy, and when my mom let me stay up late, Your Show of Shows with Sid Caesar. The first time I ever saw Elvis and The Beatles was on Ed Sullivan. I also remember the great sadness of our country in November of '63 when JFK was assassinated. So similar to 9/11.

I remember that child, that teenager, that young woman that was me, when the memories of those old shows come to mind. I was the middle child of nine and TV was often an escape from the pandemonium of our very noisy house.

Thanks for the memories, Jackie!

Jackie, you may not be on Evel Dick's list of people he would like to meet....(mass murderers only),.. but hey, more importantly, would he be on your list? Be honest. And he wouldn't be on my list either. But you would be!

Oh Jackie you gave me a blast to the past! I was also in love with Spin and Marty (eitherone I wasnt particular but Marty was the cutest :O
My freshman year in high school I was on Catalina Island off the coast here and there was Tony Dow in the flesh, cute as ever hanging with some of his buddies on the beach ....there I was awkward, boobless, in a two piece white swimsuit with polka dots...he smiled, I almost fainted...he asked if I was having fun? I couldnt pry my dry tongue from the roof of my mouth, but finally said "oh yes, its beautiful here" He gave me yet another dimpled smile and they all ran into the water with their surfboards.
The girls who I came over with (church group no less)Didnt believe me...they were very filled out and curvy and laying there trying to get a tan and look amazing....I was in the water dripping hair...what could I know? Then when the boys came running back out of the water...they went past us....He smiled at me once more, and said "bye for now!"
they almost peed their collective pants.
Just probably the best day of my life that far......

Okay, so I'm not 18 anymore, or even 21, but I followed the link to Evel Dick's My Space page and may need to go into therapy. I just about lost it when I found out he and I graduated from high school the same year (1981). He's a couple of years older because I graduated earlier, but seems WAYYYYYYYYYYY older.

Interesting little tidbit from an interview with Jessica from BB8:

"They didn’t show it on the television show but we actually got off the bat poles for a good twenty minutes when the banner was spotted. They made us lie on the ground with blind folds on so no one would see the banner but we all pretty much had seen it."

And she confirms she and Eric are dating, and she's awaiting his first visit to Kansas. For the whoe interview :

I know delee -- On Sundays they even showed the Planet Earth Series and that was something. I am watching Friday Night Lights at least now on Fridays and on Sunday, the new season of Dexter is on at 8 PM CST on Showtime. But nothing on the networks. Then Monday and Thursday there are too many shows on opposing networks.

Project Runway finally got an airdate of November 14th. And Nip/Tuck should be starting soon.

I know that most of you will hate to hear this, but...ED's newest comment on his MySpace blog says: Besides his appearance on the FOX Reality Awards Show;

Dick will soon appear on LA Ink getting a new tattoo.

He is talking with Jimmy Kimmel's people about being on his show as a guest.

AND, ED is talking with producers and CBS about developing a show around him.

Guess his 15 minutes is stretching a bit.

He says he's taken at least a "thousand pix" with fans on the streets, and the only people that hate him are on the internet.

Joy N... You beat me to the punch... LOL! I was just about to get on here and post all the latest happenings on Dick's blog, but you already did... Great minds! I miss chatting with and reading everyones comments... Hope all is well on your side of the country... :)

Hey Deanna, I'm missing the chatting, too.

I don't begrudge ED's new "fame and fortune" outside of the "house" and didn't think you would, either.

I don't check his blog often, so you'll probably beat me next time.

We have a severe weather storm heading our way with possible high winds, hail and severe lightning within the next hour, so, at the moment, I'm a little antsy, but other than that, things are fine in the northeast. I hope I can still say that in a couple of hours.

Mostly, (and I can't believe I'm saying this) I hope my cable doesn't go out. DWTS and The Bachelor are on tonight. LOL!
