DWTS Stuff, Lance on Bonnie Hunt, and Stuff

Park ONLY your tattoos here. Nothing else. No excuses. No Fords or Volkswagens!

I have just a few things I want to touch on. First, a quote of mine from the other day has been made part of the AOL Dancing With the Stars predictions feature. It looks like Lance Bass is leading the predictions from most of the other sites. Oh, well!

Speaking of Lance Bass ... he was on The Bonnie Hunt Show today. She has the old Dean Martin style fireman's pole which some guests choose to use for their entrance. When he went down the pole, he pretended he hurt his ankle. She bought it. I felt so sorry for her! You could tell she was genuinely worried.

And, last but not least ... I have a new Reality Clack column and new The Big Bang Theory review up over on CliqueClack TV if you wish to take a gander. In the former, you can tell I don't watch America's Next Top Model. Heh.

DWTS - The Final Three and My Predictions

Yep, yep, yep ... the season is drawing to a close. Every year they have a star or two who shouldn't be on a dance show. Without exception, this year it was Cloris Leachman. While she gets my kudos for being as active and agile as she is at her age, she belongs on a "serious" dance show as much as I do. And, no. You do not want me on a dance show. By the way, if you haven't heard, Cloris Leachman has been ill, but she refutes that it's anything serious.

After this week's dramatic elimination of Julianne Hough and Cody Linley, it seems to be anyone's game. Lance Bass and Lacey Schwimmer are both very talented dancers. Heck, he danced in the boy band, so he has a bit of a background in choreographed moves. Then there's Brooke Burke and her partner Derek Hough (Julianne's brother). Technically, I think she's the best dancer on the star side of things.

But I want Warren Sapp to win. Yeah, you heard me. There's just something about his performances, albeit not technical perfection, that entertain me. He plays to the audience and is just such a paradox of a man that I feel I must cheer him on. Big, gruff-looking, and used to only choreographed football moves, I've found him delightful to watch on stage. Glitter and glam, he's so there even though it seems so incongruous.

Y'see, my main goal in watching any television at all (other than news) is entertainment. Warren Sapp entertains me, thus and therefore ... he should be declared the winner this season. Nah, he's not a polished dancer. But for his size and lack of a dancing background, as well as his personality, he's a winner for me.

I have spoken. Make it happen.

TV Newsy Bits - Wednesday, October 24, 2007

A lone streetlight lights up one of the few trees with any color this autumn during early morning drizzle. I took this photo this morning in Plainfield, NJ. We had a record-breaking wet spring, but have been quite dry since with way above normal temperatures. As a result, this year's fall foliage is stunted (leaves still green) or leaves basically turning brown and dying early without the gorgeous colors I love so much.

My thoughts and prayers go out to those blog readers and friends in southern California. When I was young, I lived for a few years there. One of my most vivid early childhood memories from that time was watching the mountains burn fueled by the Santa Ana winds. The latest is so much worse than anything I've ever seen. I hope everyone is safe.

In today's TV Newsy Bits:
  • I have a brief introduction to the teams of The Amazing Race 12 set to be published shortly over on TV Squad. I'll be giving some more details here on the blog tomorrow. It sounds like an interesting cast.
  • I'll also be writing my review of Kid Nation for posting on TV Squad later tonight.
  • Oh, and not that it's all about me, but TV Squad writers got together and wrote about the scariest TV characters ever for a big Halloween post. My entry is here, but you can start here.
  • I received a few new emails from Wireless -- they're inside sort of viral clues to Heroes. When I have some time tomorrow, I'll check them out and report my findings.
  • I know that many of the Dancing With the Stars fans who hang out here weren't overly thrilled with Mark Cuban, but you might be interested in his blogging about being on the show -- it offers a neat insider kind of behind the scenes aspect. And, of course, I have to say that if it wasn't for Mark Cuban, I probably wouldn't be a blogger for TV Squad. He was the financial backing for the creation of Weblogs, Inc.

Dancing With the Stars New Season! - Blog Discussion Post

UPDATE 11/01 -- A new discussion post for this show can be found right here (due to requests because of the amount of comments).

The new season has started and, although I still only watch the show now and then, I figured I'd get a new discussion post up for those who want to talk about it!

The official show website is here.

I realize a few have started discussing the show in the older post -- it sneaked up on me. I'll copy those replies here for you since I don't have the time to remove each old comment one by one and some folks don't want them removed.

The original blog discussion post is located here.
AOL's feature page for Dancing With the Stars is right here.
The TV Squad reviews for the show can be found here.
The SirLinksAlot page for the show is here (lots of great links).

The REAL 'Dancing With the Stars' Cast Revealed

The TMZ spoilers was indeed a hoax post, but had some spot on. AOL has an article up on the real cast for the upcoming season.

Here's who you can expect to watch: Melanie "Scary Spice" Brown, Marie Osmond, Jane Seymour, model Albert Reed, pro boxer Floyd "Pretty Boy" Mayweather, Jr., Cameron Mathison from All My Children, Internet wealth tycoon Mark Cuban, actress Jennie Garth, model Josie Maran, racecar driver Helio Castrovneves, and actress-singer Sabrina Bryan.

I don't know half of these people. Your thoughts?

UPDATE -- ABC has updated their site and lists Wayne Newton there, so he's indeed in on the season.

'Dancing With the Stars' - Line-Up Spoilers?

... or possibly not. The official list is due Wednesday morning, but I found this on TMZ. I'm not sure if it's a joke or serious, but know you guys want to see it!

TV Newsy Bits - Saturday, May 5, 2007

Jackie's TV Newsy Bits It's Cinco de Mayo! A time for festivities, tacos, and even parades. I know there are lots of activities going on in this area and it's likely there's something happening in your neck of the woods, as well. Here in the Northeast, the weather is perfect for outdoor doings, whether it's checking out cultural celebration or just enjoying the day itself. Sieze the day, I say.

I want to express my gratitude for the readers and the commenting community here on the blog. I know many of you started reading the Big Brother live feeds either on this blog or the one before it, then you stayed. Big Brother 8 is in casting mode at this time. They historically wrap things up only a few weeks before we see the first show. The cast is put in sequester about ten days before they go into the house. The season usually starts for us during the first week of July, and that seems to be the schedule this year, too. I'm watching for news and will let you know when I hear something concrete. And, yes... I'll be covering the feeds once again this season.

In other TV Newsy Bits:
  • Paris Hilton's Simple Life is going to get a lot more simpler -- she's heading to jail for 45 days for violating her probation.
  • In Survivor news, Jeff Probst is very impressed with Yau-Man Chan according to this Reality TV World article. Reality News Online (RNO) has an interview with Alex, the most recent castaway, as well as a transcription of his The Early Show appearance. "You can be a Ninja by yourself. You can't be a Ninja with Mookie."
  • Kristine Lefebvre, a candidate on the recent The Apprentice: L.A. bares it all for Playboy according to E! Online and TMZ.
  • Reality TV World says that Stephanie Wilhite, recently ousted on The Bachelor: Officer and a Gentleman, saw it coming. Another contestant on the show, Amber Alchalabi, saw her boss resign over her leave of absence to appear. Yikes! Sheesh, it's one thing for reality show contestants to lose their own jobs in pursuit of a dream, but for a boss to be in hot water and blow her career?
  • Billy Ray Cyrus' wife claims that he's happy to remain on Dancing With the Stars in this Reality TV Magazine interview.
  • Can't get enough of Sanjaya Malakar? Celebrity Spider has the list of concert tour dates for the American Idol Top Ten contestants. Um... no. I won't be going.
  • This week we'll see BeeGee Bro Barry Gibb coaching the American Idol contestants. I think that's fitting, don't you? At this time, the four all want to be "Stayin' Alive."
  • In other American Idol news, Reality TV World says that Chris Richardson "knew" he was heading home this week. "I seen the band setting up, and the guitar player grabbing a 12 string guitar, and I'm the only person with a 12 string guitar, so you put it together," said Chris. Why am I not surprised that he said "I seen." Saw, Chris... you saw! AOL Television has an interview with both Phil Stacey and Chris Richardson, as well as other exit interviews with previously dismissed contestants.
  • We can expect Lost to last for two more seasons according to E! Online and discussed in this TVSquad article. The good news is that this will give the show's creators a timeline in which to address issues raised. The bad news is that once this season ends, we won't see the show again until January. I personally think long hiatus periods hurt shows. I know that I lost interest in Jericho when it went away for so long and haven't watched it since its return. I know they can't run new shows for forty episodes a year, but I think they have to come up with a better plan. The show should move back to the 9 PM slot once it reappears.
  • AOL Television has a feature page for May Sweeps and May finales. Check it out and mark your calendars!

TV Newsy Bits - Wednesday, April 25, 2007

Yes, the town of Bound Brook, New Jersey, is still all but cut off from the world. Trains are bypassing the train station, roads are closed, flood-ravaged business and home owners are still trying to clean up. I took this shot of the State Farm Catastrophe Services mobile unit set up in a Home Depot parking lot just outside of Bound Brook. None of my friends and co-workers who were evacuated from their homes over a week ago have been allowed to return as of yet.

But, television goes on. That's actually a good thing as entertainment can get our minds off of troubles for a while, at least.

Here are today's TV Newsy Bits:
  • Celebrity Spider has very mild location and other spoilers (nothing to ruin it for you) for the next The Amazing Race 11: All Stars as we head towards the season finale (May 6).
  • Ousted Apprentice wannabe Nicole says love (for Tim) is worth losing the position. Do you think that will last?
  • Did anyone catch Ivanka Trump on Letterman last night? She wasn't listed on the guest list when I made my weekly post on Sunday morning. I discovered that when allowed to talk freely, she has Frank's disease. What do I mean? I believe she said "at the end of the day..." six times (or more) during the interview. Actually, it was nice to see her really smile and not be a stiff Mini-Me of her dad for a change. But this "at the end of the day" stuff is as annoying as the "like" and "you know what I'm saying." I'm crossing it right out of my vocabulary. You know what I mean?
  • Blog readers are buzzing about Heather Mills getting the boot on Dancing With the Stars. Gee, I would have thought she'd have a leg up on the competition! Join in on the conversation in the blog discussion post for the show or check out all the articles on the show's SirLinksAlot page. I've only been catching the show now and then, but have those childhood "Paul is the cute Beatle" memories stuck in my mind. So I was happy to hear of the boot.
  • Huh. Ellen DeGeneres will be hosting the Idol Gives Back concert tonight. I don't recall hearing that on the show, but I hope that's not the "shock" promised to us by Ryan.
  • The finale of Survivor 14: Fiji will mark the 200th episode of the long-running show which really set the reality television genre in motion. The finale reunion show will air on May 13 from the Ed Sullivan Theater in NYC (where The Late Show with David Letterman is located). Hey, Survivor staff... I'm local. I like tickets! (Yeah, like that will work.)
  • Celebrity Spider has the skinny on the upcoming episode of Heroes. Oh, Hiro and Ando are in for an adventure!
  • And, Bachelor fans... remember to drop by the blog discussion post for the show! Lots of great folks are dishing on the latest episode there!

TV Newsy Bits - Tuesday, April 17, 2007

Before I get started, I'd like to offer my condolences to those touched by the tragedy at Virginia Tech. Such an incredible loss to the families and friends... words cannot express my sadness. My thoughts and prayers are with them.

And, if you noticed, my usual TV Newsy Bits graphic has been temporarily replaced. This is a shot I took of the underpass I must walk beneath to get to the eastbound commuter train (towards Newark/New York City). It has a 13'6" warning for low trucks. Well, um... if I lay down on an inflatable raft, I might just clear the bridge. Blame the Raritan River. Needless to say, the station is still closed. Yet, I made it to work. (Sigh.) The devastation I saw in Bound Brook today was unbelievable. I saw it on TV, but seeing it in person is very different.

Onto TV Newsy Bits:
  • Interviews with the most recent America's Next Top Model eliminee (is that a word?), Whitney, can be found in these articles -- RealityShack and Reality TV World.
  • Country superstar singer Martina McBride will be coaching the American Idol 6 contestants tonight. Hmmm... what will Sanjaya sing?
  • This week's American Idol contestant will be Number Seven. I found a blog with an interesting look at previous Number Sevens on the show. Jennifer Hudson was a Seven.
  • Whether really spoilers or just a writer's predictions, this Reality TV Calendar article may or may not have real spoilers for next week's Survivor 14: Fiji. You've been warned.
  • Tonight is the elimination show for Dancing With the Stars. Since I don't watch, if someone could get the eliminated announcement in the comments of the blog discussion post for the show, I'd love you! (Well, a platonic kind of love, you know.)
